The Cup of Rejection

To be called as a prophet of the Lord is to share and partake in the sufferings of Christ and one of those sufferings and cups to drink that cannot be passed on is certainly the cup of rejection(Isaiah 53:3) Rejection is extremely painful, especially when it comes from family members, friends, and people in ministry that you thought you could trust. I imagine the pain of what Jesus must have experienced in the Garden of Gethsamene or perhaps even at Calvary, being rejected and despised by those even closest to Him.

It only takes a cursory reading of all the Old Testament prophets to understand that they too were men who were deeply rejected. What about the New Testament? John the Baptist was rejected, Jesus Christ was rejected, and many of the prophets that came after Him continued to be rejected. In fact, Scripture is clear that one of the signs of a false prophet is that everyone loves everything they prophesy. (Jeremiah 5:31) In the words of Jesus, He said, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you.” (Luke 6:26) According to the testimony of both the prophets themselves and Jesus Christ, there is no way around rejection if you are truly called as a prophet of the Lord.

Working Through My Own Personal Rejection

Speaking from personal experience, even if you understand at some levels that rejection is part of your prophetic calling and development, it does not make it any less painful when you lose friendships and things turn south rather quickly. I have personally experienced rejection prophetically both on a personal and national level. I can remember vividly a particular week where I received over 1,000 pieces of hate mail and horrible things were said about me simply because of a national prophetic word I had released. I have been rejected by people in ministry who I once considered very dear friends. I recently was sent an email containing contents from a certain leader in the body of Christ who was warning other leaders in the body of Christ to stay away from “Jeremiah Johnson” because of in their words, “how dangerous I am to the body of Christ.”

I have had seasons where I was receiving so much rejection from those around me that I cried on the phone to one of my spiritual fathers and said, “I am struggling so greatly with rejection right now that I honestly cannot discern the voice of God from the voice of my accusers in this season.” Now that’s scary!

Three Pieces of Advice to Prophets of the Lord

Having walked through several deep seasons of rejection and anticipating many more to come on my prophetic journey, I have prayed through three pieces of advice and lessons I have learned in my own struggles that I hope can encourage other prophets who are on their own journey to fulfill God’s call on their life. Here are the three pieces of advice that I have learned:

1. You must receive rejection as part of your prophetic training, but choose not to operate in a spirit of rejection.

This is where the path of a prophet and the need for healthy and mature development can become very difficult. As a prophet of the Lord, you will be trained by the rejection of men, but it is not healthy nor is it the will of God that you walk in a spirit of rejection. When prophets operate out of a spirit of rejection, they are convinced that they are constantly “alone” in their calling and everyone is either against them now or will be in the future.  The spirit of rejection operating in a wounded prophet’s life has convinced them that it’s them versus the world and they are out to prove everyone wrong. The motive of the heart behind prophets who operate out of the spirit of rejection is to show the world and religion how bad they missed it with them. These prophets with wounds of rejection have what I call a “told you so” approach to life and ministry. Every open door and potential favor that God gives them, in their eyes, is twisted into proving to their critics how anointed they really were in the first place. These types of attitudes and heart postures are not only signs that a prophet is operating in a spirit of rejection, but they are extremely grieving to God the Father and not a sign of a mature prophetic anointing.

2. You must not interpret Godly correction as persecution.

It is one thing to be persecuted for righteousness sake and be asked to drink the cup of rejection as part of your prophetic calling, but it is another issue altogether to refuse to submit to any type of correction that will come through Godly fathers and mothers around you. Prophets who operate in a spirit of rejection actually interpret Godly correction as rejection or persecution. They have been so wounded by people in the past that they do not know how to trust even those who God is sending them to instruct and develop them into a more mature prophet. Mature prophets who have suffered from rejection but do not walk in a spirit of rejection are being actively fathered or mothered in some capacity. These mature prophets have leaders and trusted friends around them that are helping them process and work through their pain of being rejected as part of their calling. Behind every isolated prophet is hiding a deep wound of rejection. The truth is that they often times want to be rejected and even purposely try to be rejected so that they can remain a victim and center of attention. They get rejected because they are rebellious, not because they are actually fulfilling their prophetic assignment. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Prophets who operate in a spirit of rejection have convinced themselves that no one can be trusted, regardless of how Godly they are. This is an extremely dangerous place to be as a prophet of the Lord and will certainly stunt your growth in the prophetic call upon your life.

3. You must use the rejection of men to always properly examine your motives and heart.

In perhaps my greatest season of rejection, I reached out to one of my spiritual fathers, and brought before him an accusation that had been launched against me. I was looking for comfort and for him to reassure me that what was being said about me was just a big lie. It was so painful that I had a hard time even telling him on the phone what it was. To my great surprise, as I shared what the accusation was, he quickly answered back and said, “What if it’s true?” I was stunned to silence. Did he really just ask me that? Could God actually use the hurtful words and rejection of men to further the character of Christ inside of me? Say it isn’t so!

My spiritual father on the phone said, “Jeremiah, you must not waste this season of rejection. God is using it for your good. You must ask yourself, “What is God trying to crucify inside of me through these hurtful words from others?” This challenge, encouragement, and ultimate gentle rebuke launched me into one of the deepest seasons of prayer, fasting, soul searching, and release of pain and hurt that I have ever known.

The Rejection of Men is a Blessing

If someone said I was rebellious, I actually considered it! If someone said I was arrogant, I actually took it to the Lord and said, “Are they right?” See, I learned and am very much still learning that the rejection I receive from men is actually a set up by God Himself to see what I will do with it. Will I ignore it or just write it off, blinded by my own pride and pain, or will I allow every ounce of rejection to conform me into the image and likeness of Jesus. Over the last several years I have finally realized that some rejection that I have received from men is actually justified. They were right. I was immature, I was arrogant, and I was wounded. I have done my best to apologize and move forward, but I’m actually grateful for all that has been said about me, both good and bad.

The truth is that I now can say with a clear conscience that I count the rejection of men as a blessing in my life. It is an instrument in the hand of the Lord intended to keep me humble, questioning my own heart and motives, and drawing me ever so close to the comfort of My Father in heaven as I mature as a prophet of the Lord. I have resolved that if the price to pay to fulfill the prophetic call upon my life is my reputation, then I gladly give it up and will await Judgment Day for the clearing up of my name.

I pray that what I have written will be an encouragement and challenge to my fellow brothers and sisters who are called as prophets of the Lord. I am sorry for your pain. I am sorry for your losses. You are not alone. You do not have to prove your critics wrong. In fact, your attempt to will only grieve the Holy Spirit. Allow the rejections of men to send you on a healthy search for any areas in your own life that need adjustment and correction. Find people and leaders around you that can help you to be objective when necessary. Never excuse your rebelliousness or bad attitude from being addressed and confronted by others. And most importantly, though God has chosen to train you in your calling by the rejection of men, it is not His will or desire that you operate in a spirit of rejection. There is healing and freedom available today for you. It starts by humbling ourselves and praying.

Grace and Peace,

General and Vague Prophetic Words

There is a modern day phenomena taking place within the prophetic movement that I believe must be confronted and specifically addressed with love and truth. The sensation that I speak of is regarding the increase and explosionof very general and vague prophetic words being posted on social media and released on popular Christian websites that have little to no SUBSTANCE or SPECIFICSAnd because of the lack of content and specifics within the prophetic words, there is no place for ACCOUNTABILITY or even judging the ACCURACY of what is supposedly being said by God.

Let me give you some examples of vague and general prophecy that lacks substance, specifics, and even accountability:

For starters, the prophecies are directed at ANY ONE AND EVERYONE. There is no target audience, person, or groups of people that the prophetic word is specifically directed to. In other words, it’s a horoscope prophecy. How it works is that people simply scan the facebook’s of popular prophetic voices trying to find a status or prophetic video that they can apply to their life or they scan popular Christian websites looking for the latest prophetic word released that again is typically not addressed to a target audience, person, or groups of people and has absolutely no substance or specifics. It’s a bunch of fluff that has someone’s carnal desires and greed at its core. This is horoscope prophecy.

Secondly, the prophecies do not ask for participation, sacrifice, or requirements for those who the word is supposedly for. It’s pretty much a name and claim it one stop showboat. All someone has to do is read the word on social media, claim their prize, and bada bing bada boom, your destiny and desires WILL BE fulfilled.

The explosion and increase of general and vague prophecy across the internet world can be likened to going to a Chinese restaurant and getting a free fortune cookie. Pick one, open it up, and there you have your horoscope prophecy.

The heartbreaking part about all of this is that when we turn to the Scriptures to try and find where all this vague and general prophecy is coming from, YOU CAN’T FIND ANY. You cannot find a single prophet or prophetic word in Scripture that was not prophesying to a specific person, people group or nation and what they prophesied was not only SPECIFIC and full of SUBSTANCE, but it also had REQUIREMENTS from those who received it.

There is so much more for the prophetic movement than promising anyone and everyone upgrades, financial blessing, more glory, angel feathers, gold dusts, property, and more. People can keep scrolling Facebook and popular Christian websites for their monthly prophetic horror scope, but I believe that God is calling many of His people to hit delete and unsubscribe from all this shenanigans and tomfoolery.

God is raising up a company of prophetic messengers, intercessors, and saints in America that are hungry for the word of the Lord that has weight, substance, and specifics. They are hungry for revelatory prophecy, not spontaneous prophecy. They must not be ashamed of their appetite for the deeper and weightier matters that are upon God’s heart.

May we heed the warning that Jeremiah gave in his day when God said, “There are people prophesying that I have not spoken to and there are people traveling and ministering that I have not sent.” (Jeremiah 23:21) May this blog be used to stir up healthy conversation, dialogue, accountability, and a wake up call to the prophetic movement and the body of Christ. The need has never been greater.

Heartbroken and Hopeful,

Reformation is Upon Us

I believe that we are about to witness one of the greatest revivals and reformations within the African-American Church that the world has ever seen. 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 1517 where Martin Luther nailed the 95 thesis at Wittenberg crying out for greater religious freedoms for the Church. The Holy Spirit has shown me through a reoccurring prophetic dream that He is currently raising up African-American deliverers and circuit riders in the same spirit as Moses who are about to nail a mighty reformation to the doors of the African American Church.

Over the last 3 months, I have received the same reoccurring prophetic dream concerning this reformation and revival that is coming. It has been an incredible burden that I have been praying and fasting through and now I have finally received a release from the Holy Spirit to publicly share what God has shown me.

The Prophetic Dream

In the prophetic dream I am attending an all African-American Church Conference. While the praise and worship is going on, I look at the stage and am stunned as I see African-American Church leaders dressed in royal robessitting upon golden thrones. I quickly realize that the praise and worship in the room is not directed toward heaven, but is directed toward these African-American Church leaders on the stage.

Suddenly, the back doors of the Church fling wide open and a young African-American man dressed in tattered clothes and carrying a staff walks in. The entire conference goes silent and the fear of the Lord descends upon everyone. The young African-American man steps forward and begins to prophesy directly to the people in the room and says, Your apostles are abusing you and your prophets are pimping you, but the God-Man is coming for you. My brothers and sisters, how much longer will you allow this modern day slavery to keep you in bondage and oppression? You have become the slaves of these apostles and prophets and the Spirit of God is now coming to set you free. This is not the hour to pledge allegiance to the color of their skin, now is the time to pledge allegiance to the blood of Jesus Christ that liberates the captives.”

As this young African American man finished prophesying to the people, rage and anger overtook the African American church leaders who sat upon their thrones on the stage. They began to scream at the young man and say, “How dare you challenge our authority boy? Don’t you know who your people are?”

The young African American man began to weep and wail. His staff immediately turned into a lightning bolt. With one swift motion, he drove the lightning bolt into the floor of the Church and all the African American Church leaders who sat upon their thrones fell off of them. Immediately three spirits manifested in the room and were bound by the young man. They revealed themselves as: Poverty, Mammon, and Sexual Immorality. The young African American man began to prophesy again to the people and said, “The Spirit of God is releasing cleansing judgment upon the African American Church in order to purify her before the return of Jesus Christ. The sexual immorality that is running rampant among African American Church leaders will be dealt with the most severely. God will not tolerate any longer the hypocrisy and secrecy that the apostles and prophets are walking in. The witchcraft that some have operated in to even have sexual relations with those in their congregations is an abomination in the sight of God. Next, God will begin to address the spirit of mammon and greed that has taken root in the hearts of African-American Church leaders. The prophets will no longer pimp their brothers and sisters through flattery and selfish gain. They will be stripped of their manipulation and control and the motives and intentions of their hearts will be revealed. The false prophets must be exposed and dealt with in the African-American Church. The apostles will no longer abuse their brothers and sisters through their demands of man worship and greed. No longer will they continue to charge fees to come hear them speak at conferences and churches, but they will freely give away what I have entrusted to them. Finally, God will confront the poverty spirit that is strangling the African American Church as a direct result of the spirit of mammon and greed that has been released. They are directly connected with one another.”

When the young African American man finished prophesying with the lightning bolt in his hand, the African American leaders on the stage got off the floor and drove him out of the church building and conference. They locked the doors of the church so that none of the people inside the conference could leave.

3 Earmarks of the African-American Deliverers and Circuit Riders

Each time that I have woken up from this reoccurring prophetic dream, the Spirit of God has revealed the following three realities that will mark the African-American deliverers and circuit riders that are being released to the African American Church. The three realities are:

1. They will carry an unusual grace for humility, but incredible prophetic boldness. These men and women will have honor in their hearts, but it is for the Lord Jesus Christ above the religious traditions of men. When these African-American deliverers speak out and confront African-American apostles and prophets, the fear of the Lord is going to anoint their words. They will manifest tears and weeping wherever they go because of the burden God has given them regarding the bondage of modern day slavery that the people have come under. The spirit these men and women will carry is not in rebellion, woundedness, or bitterness but in a genuine and authentic spirit of revival and reformation that has clear vision and purpose.

2. They will carry an unusual anointing for signs, wonders, and miracles. Even as God called Moses to confront Pharaoh to “Let My People Go” so God is calling forth African American deliverers and circuit riders in this same spirit to confront these African-American Church leaders who sit upon their thrones and abuse and pimp the people to “Let My People Go”. As these deliverers and circuit riders are resisted by many leaders, they will demonstrate true signs, wonders, and miracles so that the people will know that they have been sent by God Himself. Authentic power is being restored to the African American Church.

3. They will be mostly rejected and cursed by the African American Church leaders who sit upon their thrones, but welcomed by African American Church leaders who walk in humility and the fear of the Lord. There will be so many young future apostles and prophets that will be the primary beneficiaries of the message that God has called these African American deliverers and circuit riders to release. They will recognize the deception and slavery that the people are bound in and will choose to lead and govern in a different way than they have seen in the years ahead.

Freedom from Abuse and Pimping

The reformation and revival that is coming to the African-American Church will be a direct result of the rise of these African-American deliverers and circuit riders. They will set free the people of God from the abuse and pimping of the apostles and prophets and cry out for holiness and true worship of Jesus Christ to be restored to the Church. A new generation of African American apostles and prophets is being birthed in the earth right now who will not charge for prophecies and enslave the people to a religious system of abuse and carnal authority. They will walk in servanthood and meekness. This new generation of apostles and prophets will refuse to allow themselves to be worshipped and put on a throne that only Jesus Christ deserves to sit on. They will not concern themselves with titles and applause. They will walk with the people, not talk over them. Humility and honor will mark their lives and ministries. They will have healthy marriages and children that serve God all the days of their lives.

Father, we ask that you would raise up these African-American deliverers and circuit riders in the mighty name of Jesus! Clothe them with humility and great prophetic boldness in this hour. Give them your heart and mind concerning this modern day slavery that is suffocating your plans and purposes for your people. I see reformation coming to the Church in Africa!  I see reformation coming to Chicago! The abuse and pimping must stop! I see reformation coming to Detroit! The abuse and pimping must stop! I see reformation coming to the African-American Church on the East Coast of America like never before. Father, we ask that you would connect the African American deliverers and circuit riders to one another all over the world and let them strengthen and encourage one another. We thank you that your lightning is about to strike in the African American Church with your glory and power. We thank you for your word to us today in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With Urgency and Expectancy,

In the Days of Joel

In the days of Joel the Old Testament prophet, the people had strayed away from the Lord and so he begins to plead with them to return to God with repentance, prayer, and fasting. Joel cries out and says,

Blow a trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation. Assemble the elders and GATHER THE CHILDREN AND NURSING INFANTS” (Joel 2:15-16)

As the people respond in obedience to this call, Joel prophesies again and says, “And it will come about AFTER THIS that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy…” (Joel 2:28)

The prophet Joel sees and prophesies of a coming outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will be released as a result of people gathering together in repentance, prayer, and fasting. Elders will not only gather together but CHILDREN AND NURSING INFANTS will be present! In other words, God deeply desires infants and children to not only be involved in various aspects of corporate prayer and fasting, but they will also be recipients of the coming outpouring of the Holy Spirit where they will prophesy, see visions, and dream at night.

The Current Days We Live In

As I look across the landscape of the American Church (both as a pastor and traveling minister) I see an interesting trend emerging among millennial parents who have infants and small children. To be quite frank, I see a generation of millennial parents who are doing everything in their power to keep their infants and small children’s experience of church as limited as possible and when they attend, it better be like a drive thru or else. For example:

  • The average millennial mother has a baby and she disappears from the church for up to 1 year.
  • The average millennial mother has a toddler that has a routine schedule and if the church schedule conflicts with the toddler’s schedule, well we know who is winning that battle.
  • The average millennial father is disconnected from his role of leading his infants and small children in worship, prayer, and interacting with the Bible.
  • The average millennial father would rather watch NFL football or go hunting than practice the presence of God in his home where his infants and small children can observe, learn, and follow suit.

I dare say that if the current millennial generation of parents continues in this unbiblical pattern, we will have a generation of infants and toddlers grow up who will hardly have any experience of God or the Church and will be incredibly hindered because of it.

Our Personal Story

Now before you accuse me of being insensitive or rude, let me explain a few things. I have been married to my beautiful wife Morgan for 7 years and we have 3 small children that are 5, 3, and 11 months old. Trust me when I say, we totally understand the busyness of life and how hectic things can be at times. We planted a church 7 years ago and have watched God bring growth and fruit in amazing ways! We are constantly surrounded my numerous parents who are in the same fight as we are. On top of that, I have also traveled over 125, 000 miles a year ministering the gospel all over the USA and various parts of the world. As a full time pastor and traveling minister, raising Godly small children and having a thriving marriage is impossible without the grace of God! We are literally pressed to our limits on a weekly basis.

In the midst of passionately pursuing God with all of our hearts, we have absolutely refused to do it WITHOUT OUR CHILDREN! We do not believe in the common saying of: 1. God 2. Family 3. Church. Where is that in the Bible? What we see in the Scriptures are families pursuing God together as one unit. When my wife and I worship the Lord, we invite our small children to participate. Before they are allowed to engage in a special privilege like watching a tv show, we read them a story from the bible and we talk about it. At night before bed, we have powerful times of prayer. My 5 and 3 year old are currently supporting two children from compassion international that are both their same ages. They write to them and are learning what it means to be generous and even good stewards of the few dollars we give them each week. There is no reason why we should not include our infants and small children in the work of the kingdom of God, whether that’s at home or in the local church that we serve in.

*Note: We completely understand that at times our kids get sick, act up, or other unexpected events take place. This is where we need the grace of God like never before. None of us are perfect, but we must do the best that we can. Our goal is not to paint the picture of our kids as “perfect angels”, but give the reader practical examples of how young children can participate in the kingdom of God.

Church Services and Activities

One of the strangest issues among millennial parents is regarding church services and activities. Millennial parents will claim that they cannot attend a certain church service because their baby/toddler has a bedtime, but that same couple will allow their baby/toddler to stay up past its bedtime when they are engaging in hobbies and what they want to do. Many of the rigid mindsets that millennial parents have toward church services and activities are not the same rigid mindsets that they have toward their leisure and free weekends. This is hypocrisy.

Millennial parents complain that a church service is too long, but those same parents  will allow their toddlers and infants to sit in front of a television for hours on end without a question. As parents we have to honestly ask ourselves, is it our small children or us that have the problem with longer church services?

What about church in general? Apparently many millennial parents cannot even make it to church because they have small children. The truth is that most millennial parents are awake three hours before the church service starts because their young ones are already up! We must do a better job priortizing God and Church in the life of our little ones.

Closing Thoughts

What if the greatest issue among millennial parents isn’t how long church services and activities are or even just going to church in general. What if the greatest stronghold among millennial parents is called “child worship”. Yes, I just said that. What if an entire generation of 20’s and 30 year olds actually cares more about their infants and small children than they do about God?

I believe that the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit is coming upon this generation. People are going to experience God in ways that will change their life forever. The gospel of Jesus Christ is going to be lived out and demonstrated  like never before. My prayer is that millennial parents will hear the clarion call from the Scriptures to, “Gather the children and nursing infants“. We must include our little one’s in the work of the kingdom and position them to encounter God. I see late night prayer meetings once again where millennial parents won’t go home because its 8 pm, but rather bring sleeping bags to church and allow their kids to experience the presence of God while they sleep. I see millennial parents turning off their cell phones and shutting off the television and having nights of worship in their home with their infants and small children. I see millennial parents modeling for their young ones what it means to truly walk with the Holy Spirit. The time is now.

From a Millennial Parent,

2017 Prophetic Word:

The Trump Presidency and the Increasing

Polarization in the Church

For the last several years, I have felt a tremendous burden from the Spirit of God to shut down all active ministry and travel in the month of December to seek Him concerning His heart for the following calendar year. My main request before God every year has simply been, “As a prophetic voice, how can I help prepare people for the days ahead?” By God’s grace and through personal consecration, He has always answered me clearly through the Bible, prophetic dreams, visions, and encounters.

On November 27, 2016, I had a visitation from the Holy Spirit in my home in which He very clearly told me to get off all social media immediately, stop consuming all caffeine and sweets, and consecrate myself for when His word would come to me. As I responded in obedience, I began to receive several significant prophetic dreams concerning the year 2017 and beyond. Each time that I awakened, I sensed the deep abiding presence of God and began having further fellowship and conversation with the Spirit, asking for greater clarity and wisdom. On the 22ndday of the fast, I sensed a release from the period of consecration and also permission to share what I have received from the Lord. I ask that you would judge the following prophetic words concerning 2017 and beyond with sobriety and prayerfully consider what I believe God is revealing. May the Holy Spirit grant us His wisdom, divine strategy, and perspective in the days ahead.

Part 1: The Trump Presidency

 A Bitter Cold Winter

I received a prophetic dream in which the Spirit of God showed me very troubling weather patterns coming in the winter of 2017. Some of the coldest and most severe weather that has ever landed in America will fall in the winter of 2017. Great snowfall and treachery will mark this period of time. As Donald Trump is inaugurated and set into office, the brutal winter in various parts of the United States will be a direct reflection of the coldness of men’s hearts toward this man and his presidency. As the bitter winter lays hold of certain parts of the United States, we must recognize that this is a specific prophetic sign of the cold and bitter hearts of men toward Donald’s victory and election.

Donald Trump and Russia

The next prophetic dream I received was a special and unique dialogue between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The Spirit of God said to me, “The eagle (Trump) and the bear (Putin) shall partner together and they will both be hunted by the liberal media.” I saw great potential for wealth, creativity, and innovation with these men. The Spirit said to me, “Donald Trump will not be remembered for building bridges or even burning them, but for the grace that I have given him to create them.” God began to show me that Donald Trump will create deals and make deals across the world that have never been thought possible. Many will be astonished at the grace and favor that he will walk in.

As I inquired of the Lord further about Trump and Putin’s relationship, I heard the words, “Their friendship will cause tremors and earthquake like activity among the liberal media and parts of the government like never before. Their talks will cause the conspiracy and accusation levels to rise to an all time high.” I believe that the watchmen and intercessors need to lean into the wisdom of God concerning these men and not give into carnal fear and speculation. There will be a false prophetic narrative concerning the United States and Russia that will be fueled by soulish fear and mere speculation. Look for divine perspective and prophetic insight to be released concerning these two men and nations.

The last prophetic dream God gave me was the spiritual awakening that is coming to Russia and how underneath Putin’s reign, the Spirit of God will begin to move among the Russian saints at unprecedented levels. Look for religious liberty to expand in the days ahead as Trump and Putin’s friendship grows.

Donald Trump and China

The next prophetic dream I received was Donald Trump placing a crown of thorns upon the nation of China. In the dream, God immediately reminded me of the prophetic word (Click here:    ) that I had received from Him in July of 2015 concerning Donald Trump and his destiny. In the prophetic word that was released, the Spirit specifically said, “He will be like a bull in a china shop.” God began to speak to me and say, “During Donald Trump’s presidency, he will not only be a thorn in the side of China, but also a bull to their shop (economy).” The Lord continued, “The bullies (China) will lock horns with the bull (Donald) and it will cause great tension and strife among the nations.”

Donald Trump and Israel

On December 20, 2015, I received a prophetic word concerning the year 2016 and specifically Benjamin Netanyahu. Part of the prophecy that was recorded and published said, “Benjamin Netanyahu is greatly anticipating the 2016 elections far beyond most American’s and for good reason, as I have placed a humble spirit within him and he has not taken offense as President Obama has spit in his face and plotted evil in secret.”

I believe that Benjamin Netanyahu is greatly relieved and comforted by Donald Trump being elected President of the United States and beyond ready for President Obama to leave office.

Several days later (within the last 30 days) after receiving the dream concerning Trump and China, I received another prophetic dream in which I saw Benjamin Netanyahu and a mighty prophetic anointing that came upon him. God said to me in the dream, “Benjamin, though small in the eyes of many men, has gained great favor with Me. I will use him as a frontrunner in the nations of the earth to expose the plots and plans of the enemy. He will be a trusted adviser to Donald Trump and help him navigate through turbulent days ahead. Donald will be a friend to Israel and Israel will be a friend to Donald and America.”

Donald Trump and the Church

Two days before Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, I received and published a prophetic dream in which a baby with the face of Donald Trump was brought to a church and given to an older woman who was a nursery worker at a church. The woman began to rock baby Donald and sing over him. This is what she sang, “Donald, you have a crooked way in you, but through the intercession of the Church, God is going to change you.” She sang this tune over Donald several times and then I woke up.

Having had a significant amount of time to pray through this dream, I have become convinced by the Spirit of God that there is a tremendous amount of weight and responsibility that now rests upon the Church as Donald Trump has been elected President. Per the dream, Donald has clearly been given by God as a gift to the Church and she must engage in intercession in order to drive out the crooked way that is inside of him. Donald Trump is not the savior of America, and the Church must not go back to business as usual now that he has been elected. In prayer, I heard the Spirit of God say, “The presidency of Donald Trump will be defined by one thing: his character. You must know that his character can be greatly shaped and forged through the faithful intercession and prayers of the Church.”

As I attended an event on April 9th, 2016 called, “Asuza Now” in Los Angeles, California where some 70,000 Christians gathered for a day of prayer and fasting, God spoke to me and said, “If elected, Donald Trump will legislate stadium Christianity in America. If elected, Hillary Clinton will abolish stadium Christianity in America.” God showed me that there are going to be several historic and significant gatherings of believers contending for a third great awakening under the Trump Presidency. We must understand that the Church in America has gained great favor with Donald Trump winning the election, but we must also be committed to faithful prayer and intercession that any crookedness in him would be repented of and driven out.

Part 2: The Increasing Polarization in the Church

As I sought the Lord concerning His heart and words for the body of Christ in the year 2017, I heard Him say, “Polarization.” Polarization usually refers to how people think, especially when two views emerge that drive people apart. I believe that we are about to see the emergence of one of the greatest polarizations that the Church has ever seen. The first area God showed me is concerning the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the second area is regarding apostolic ministry.

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

In an open vision, I saw the ministry of the Holy Spirit being substituted and replaced like never before in various parts of the body of Christ. In 2017, some churches are going to engage in entertainment and fleshly-driven marketing techniques that the earth has never seen before. Parts of the church are going to give themselves to becoming a sub-culture for the world. I heard the Lord say, “The false gospel that produces false converts will be spread like wildfire in 2017. Church attendance, the number of church services, and financial increase will deceive many who are looking for soulish confirmation of success.” He continued, “Church leaders who started the ministry being led by My Spirit will begin to drift away from My voice in 2017 and operate from a realm of man-pleasing and carnality.”

While the ministry of the Holy Spirit will be substituted for and replaced in various churches and ministries in 2017, the Spirit of God also showed me a remnant of saints and churches in America that are going to welcome the ministry of the Holy Spirit like never before. There will be powerful visitation and encounters fueled from the place of prayer and fasting. Signs, wonders, and miracles will be demonstrated so that people will not put their trust in men, but in the Lord. We are going to see truly Spirit-filled churches rise in America. Church leaders are going to experience a fresh awareness of the fear of the Lord and begin to preach messages that will cut to the heart of real issues with which we must deal with. I heard the Lord say, “It’s time to shut down the drive-thru church that is bound by watches and calendars and get into the place where you’re governed by My Face.” I saw many church services and conferences that were scheduled for shorter periods of time actually be extended in 2017 as the Holy Spirit’s presence and power begin to move.

Be on the lookout for the increasing polarization that is coming in 2017 regarding the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Be warned concerning churches and ministries that will choose to glory in their own flesh and ideas, but also be encouraged by the churches and ministries who will value devotion to Jesus, prayer, and having an ear for what the Holy Spirit is saying.

The Apostolic Ministry

I received a prophetic dream in which the Holy Spirit said to me, “Of all the five ministries functioning in the body of Christ, the greatest level of deception is operating in apostolic ministry. There is coming an increasing polarization to this ministry. On the one hand, you will witness true apostles rise who walk in authentic apostolic ministry, but on the other hand, you will see false apostles rise who will spread soulish and false apostolic ministry.”

In 2017, I saw God raising up fathers, apostolic preachers who will proclaim Jesus Christ and all of His glory. The Holy Spirit will anoint their declarations and restore fascination and love for the Beautiful One as they minister.

These fiery heralds will help usher in revival to the Church centered upon the knowledge of God and encountering the person of Jesus. This company of burning and shining lamps will devour the Word of God. They will say “yes” to fresh encounters on the road to Emmaus where the unveiling of Christ will be made known to them through the Law, the Psalms, and the Prophets. God’s eternal purpose in Christ Jesus shall be manifested to this generation through these apostles.

Apostolic ministry that does not recognize that to gain revelation concerning Christ is everything and to forfeit it is futile is not authentic apostolic ministry. The primary calling of ALL true apostles is to unveil the glorious person of Jesus Christ to His body. (Col 1:17; Eph. 3:8-11)

Apostles have been commissioned by the Father Himself to uncover and reveal Jesus Christ as the foundation, the cornerstone, and head of the Church. True apostles consistently teach, preach, and prophesy on the life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and second coming of Jesus Christ.

If HE Himself is not their central focus and message, they are NOT legitimate apostles. It is a terrifying thing to recognize that you can hardly find ANY well known apostles in America that are actually “Christ-centered” or even preaching “Christ.” We seem to be hearing every “revelation” besides Jesus from apostles and prophets!

Paul was not known as an apostle of “deliverance,” “spiritual warfare,” “prophetic,” “faith,” or the “supernatural” etc. He was an apostle of Jesus Christ.

The Apostolic Networking Merry-go-round

In 1 Thessalonians 2:5-12, Paul writes concerning five specific earmarks of apostolic ministry. They are as follows:

  1. Apostles do not lord their authority over the saints, but rather they minister in gentleness as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.
  1. Apostles are full of fond-affection for the saints and impart life and love through relationship, not networking or hierarchy.
  1. Apostles are not greedy and do not desire to be a financial burden to those to whom they minister.
  1. Apostles are fathers who exhort, encourage, and challenge the saints to walk in a manner worthy of God’s call on their life.
  1. Apostles do not come to flatter saints with their words nor do they seek glory and praise from men.

I received a prophetic dream where God said to me, “My people must be warned of the coming apostolic merry-go-round. In the days of Paul some claimed to be of Cephas and others Apollos, yet it is no different in the days that you are living in. False allegiance to man is what has caused the immaturity of much of the apostolic ministry in America.”

We are living in a day and age in which in order to be a spiritual son or daughter to many so-called apostles, one must pay their monthly dues or be labeled “false sons and daughters.” In other words, these charlatans are asking people to rent their name per month so that they can declare that they are operating under “apostolic covering and authority.” Through fear, intimidation, and control, the apostolic networking merry-go-round is being established and advanced in America. In a gifted generation that is hungering for fathering, they are being prostituted and pimped and don’t even know it. If anyone dares to challenge these so-called apostles, they will be blacklisted and the minions working in these networks will be told not to associate with these individuals. A secret society is being formed within these networks that more resembles the mob rather than the bride of Christ.

Unfortunately, in order to preserve their public image and reputation, these “apostles” will only network with certain individuals from whom they can benefit. It’s all about money, applause, and public image. I’m convinced many of these con artists posing as apostles need to go open up a business in the world and stop bringing their greed and filth into the body of Christ. They are using and abusing the saints as they fill up their travel itinerary and boast about how many leaders are submitted to them. It’s disgusting in the sight of God.

The problem with most of the apostolic networking in America is that Jesus is being sold out and being merchandised, and the apostolic ministry turned into a marketplace for prostitution and casual harlotry.

Apostles Know it is Better to Give than Receive

Paul the Apostle ministered to the body and Elders at Ephesus for a period of more than three years. As an apostolic voice and father in their lives, he shares his heart and motives with them in a crystal clear way when he says, “I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak…” (Acts 20:33-35)

As a called apostle, Paul had no desire to be a financial burden to the saints there. He labored among them in the marketplace and set a powerful example for other called apostles throughout the ages. Seeking to explain his actions, he reminded the leaders that, “we must help the weak” and the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, “it is better to give than receive”. (v.35)

How does Paul’s heart and passion for apostolic ministry in Ephesus compare to current apostolic trends that charge fees and require specific honorariums to come minister? Why do many so called “modern day apostles” demand to be treated like a Hollywood celebrity and operate in a spirit of greed and mammon and act like its Scriptural?

The Spirit of God wants to make it clear: because many of them are not apostles and are acting like scam artists who push their multi level marketing strategies in order to get rich quick. For a so called “apostle” to require specific honorariums to come preach and to charge saints certain “fees” to be a part of a networks is nothing more than Babylonian harlotry.

I’m convinced that a majority of those claiming to be “apostles” and running “apostolic networks” are really just business type CEO’s who need to take their manipulation, charisma, and lust for power and money somewhere else besides the body of Christ. Go sell your products and schemes to the world and stop defiling authentic Christ centered apostolic ministry.

We are going to see the rise of true apostles in this generation who recognize that it is better to give than receive. These fathers will give all they have away free of charge and consider it an honor and privilege to share and impart the portion of Christ that God has given them to this next generation. We must not be surprised when the names of these authentic apostles are not recognized by the public, but known by their Father in heaven.

The Shepherding Movement Reborn

I received another prophetic dream in which the Spirit of God has specifically shown me that in the next 15-20 years, we are going to see the “Shepherding Movement” of the 1970’s REBORN through some apostolic leaders in America who will prey upon this fatherless generation of millennials.

There is a newer apostolic wineskin currently operating in the body of Christ that believes that individuals who do not submit to their authority are wounded, rebellious, and prideful.

This new apostolic company thrives on titles, showmanship, control, intimidation, fear and releasing “new revelation” that must be swallowed by their followers.

Their over-emphases will be the same as those in the 1970’s, namely: authority, submission, and accountability, all of which are biblical truths that will be blown out of proportion and hammered upon the next generation.

In the midst of this coming apostolic disease, we must not lose sight of true apostolic fathers who, through love and care, will properly impart both their own lives and revelation of Jesus Christ, and raise up and release genuine sons and daughters. These apostolic reformers will be relatively unknown to many and will give birth to true sons like Timothy, the true shepherds that this generation so desperately needs!

We must have true voices in the body of Christ who will not compromise their DNA for the sake of connectivity and platforms. Forging friendships with one another with the hidden motivation of seeking greater visibility and notoriety is idolatry. There are many unholy alliances forming among church leaders. The religious apostolic games need to stop. Let’s get back to private devotion with Jesus and move beyond the public prostitution of gifting and notoriety.

God is looking for a generation of men and women who will find their voice in the wilderness, not from being connected to a network. A soulish search for validation and significance has driven too many out of the wilderness and into the arms of false apostles who are looking to prey upon the next generation. In 2017, we are going to witness the shaking and dismantling of apostolic networking like never before. Motives, attitudes, and the flesh is going to be exposed and what has been built upon the altar of performance and greed will be burned in the fire. From up out of the ashes and rubble will come a generation of sons and daughters who will find their identity, purpose, and destiny from their Father in heaven. They will be a mighty force in the kingdom of God and resolve to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

The Final Word

In 2017, Donald Trump is going to need the prayers of the saints like never before. Some might have prayed for him to get elected, but now it’s time to pray that He is protected and respected. Look for Russia, China, and Israel to continue to be in world news and events during the Trump presidency. Remember that the bitter cold winter that is coming to America in 2017 is a prophetic sign of the hardness of hearts toward this man and his victory. Let’s stay on the alert and through intercession and prayer, let’s ask God to forge His character in our 45th President and that any crookedness would be driven out of Him.

Finally, be on the lookout for the increasing polarization that is coming to the Church, especially regarding the ministry of the Holy Spirit as well as apostolic ministry. We are truly going to see extremism manifest like never before. There will be carnal ministry versus the ministry of the Holy Spirit and authentic apostolic ministry contrasted to false apostolic ministry. May Jesus Christ be glorified and let His kingdom come and His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

I am Yours in Christ Jesus,

Shock and Awe

I remember like it was yesterday when I received my very first invitation to minister at a certain city in America. At that time, I had just planted a church in Lakeland, FL and was giving myself full time to the work of the Lord on a local level. As I read the email that day, I was floored that anyone would even consider me to come speak to their congregation. When I got the initial request, I grabbed my wife and tossed her up in the air and said, “Honey, I can’t believe it. I’m only 21 years old!” Boy, was I in for a big wake up call!

The next week I found myself in the green room with the pastor of the host church, moments before the opening service began. My palms were sweating and I was as nervous as I have ever been. Hundreds of folks were waiting in the auditorium for “prophet Jeremiah Johnson” to come  and give them the word of the Lord. What happened next has marked me forever.

In the green room, the pastor pulled out a list of names and faces from behind a door and put them right in front of my face. “You see all these people?” he said. “Yes” I said. “If you want a big love offering tonight, then you had better prophesy to these people and make sure you give them a good word” he said. Stunned, I simply nodded and he walked out the door as the worship began. I immediately dropped to my knees and cried out to God and said, “What is this Father?” He said to me, “Jeremiah, I have sent you here that you might choose life or death tonight, for anyone that I have ever called has been tested and tried by the hands of men that I might know whom they shall serve.” I wept and wept. I think I missed the entire worship service.

With tears in my eyes that night, I did my best to preach a message on the infinite worth of Jesus Christ and proceeded to stand up the poorest looking people I could and proclaim to them the love and affection of God for their lives. Hours went by it seemed, until perhaps the richest people in the congregation heard absolutely nothing from God, for I decided that night neither to become a traveling prostitute nor allow a host pastor to prostitute me. I walked out of that meeting years ago with zero dollars in my pocket and the voice of the Father on the plane ride home that told me, “Son, I am proud of you, but you must know that many, many more tests shall come in your lifetime.”

Let the Good Times Role

Having had this first encounter traveling and ministering on the road years ago, some would think that the story that I shared above has been repeated over and over again in my life, but the truth is that is hasn’t. In fact, I have been well treated and taken care of in every church that I have ever preached at since. Typically traveling and ministering more than 70, 000 miles a year, this is a tremendous blessing!  I have met hundreds of fabulous leaders all over the United States and various parts of the world that love the body of Christ well and are eager to be a blessing where they can. On my end here in Lakeland, FL we host approximately 10-12 guest speakers a year for our conferences and special services and we typically are one of the first churches that leaders contact to see if we would like to have them minister again the following year. Just to be clear, yes, I initially had a very bad experience traveling, but my various experiences since and the many that I have had as a local leader dealing with traveling speakers has been great. One of the unique things that I get to experience on a monthly basis is that I not only host traveling ministers as a local leader, but I get to be the traveling minister that gets hosted by pastor’s from all over the nation. It’s been fun to fully understand what they have gone through to put on a conference or revival service and encourage them through the process.

Coffee and Conversation

While I have personally had great experiences traveling and ministering nationally and internationally, I can categorically tell you that THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR MANY, MANY OTHERS! I remember having coffee with a gentleman who travels and ministers to the body of Christ and after he shared how he had been treated by host churches in the body of Christ, I literally wept for him, right there in the middle of Starbucks. I could not believe his various experiences. Unfortunately, that coffee story continues to happen over and over again. I would venture to say that 7 out of 10 traveling ministers that I meet with feel USED and ABUSED by host pastors and leaders and on the flip side about the same, 7 out of 10 pastors and leaders, feel USED and ABUSED by traveling ministers. So what’s the problem? The problem is what I believe the Holy Spirit recently revealed it to me as: TRAVELING MINISTRY PROSTITUTION.

I would like to offer what I believe the Holy Spirit revealed to me about this growing industry and epidemic in the body of Christ by breaking each side down:

1. They Only Do It To Survive

Like prostitutes, traveling ministers who engage in this lifestyle are really in it for the financial gain. They are not concerned with the welfare of those whom they minister to, but are focused on love offerings and honorariums. They love to take up special offerings and get people to “sow” seed into their latest revelations so that they can feed their next itch.

2. They Never Take a Break

Ministers that are engaging in traveling prostitution blow from place to place, addicted to ministry and the benefits that it can offer them. Because they find their worth, value, and significance from ministering on a platform, the thought of actually being committed to one group of believers for a period of time or even ministering to their own family makes them miserable.

3. One Night Stands are the Norm

Traveling ministry prostitutes are usually only interested in ministering at the fewest amount of services possible and expending the least amount of energy that they can.

4. They Self-Promote and Provocate

Ministers that indulge in traveling prostitution are professional entertainers and producers. They make their own flyers, exaggerate their success, and constantly try to build friends for the sake of where they can minister next.

5. No One Really Knows Who They Are

Worst than any other sign, traveling ministers who are caught in prostitution live in green rooms and are never found down in the altars. They are not warm and friendly and especially enjoy preaching messages and walking off stages without anyone really knowing who they are. They do not care about the host church or what they are possibly going through. They typically have entourages and armor bearers who keep people outside of “their world”.

1. They are Only Interested in Taking

Churches that are prostituting traveling ministers know nothing nor ask anything about the traveling ministers family. They do not take the time to find out how the traveling minister is really doing or if there is anything that they can be praying with him/her about. They are extremely suffocating and treat traveling ministers like magicians.

2. They Enjoy the Thrills

Churches that are prostituting traveling ministers love the thrill of revival type atmospheres, but are not willing to pay the price to see them sustained. These churches pump traveling ministers for all they have in one, two, or three meetings, but could care less about cultivating their own atmosphere of breakthrough.

3. They Are Desperate

Churches that are prostituting traveling ministers are desperate and typically have nothing going on when they do not have a conference or revival service. These folks see traveling ministers as their saviors and only hope. No pressure LOL

4. They are Hypocrites

Like a rich married business man who outwardly portrays himself as blessed and happy, yet has a secret lifestyle, churches that are prostituting traveling ministers usually have created a picture through social media that they are well put together and are well off. Upon arrival, the traveling minister finds out the opposite is true! Why do so many pastors tell traveling ministers that the church is “struggling financially” when they pick them up? If you don’t have the money to invest and bless traveling ministers, then do not invite them to your church or ministry!

5. They are Cheap

Churches that are prostituting traveling ministers take full advantage of them and do not place proper value on their time, efforts, and energy expended. They expect traveling ministers to cover their own expenses and then give them love offerings that they would be ashamed to give their own mother.

Let’s Get Practical

I would like to finish by leaving the reader with seven pieces of advice that will help traveling ministers as well as host churches avoid traveling ministry prostitution. I pray that what I have shared will bring healing, clarity, and if nothing else, open up the lines of communication to what I believe is a dimension of the body of Christ that really needs help!

1. Work out logistics with traveling ministers prior to their arrival!

Do they charge an honorarium? If they take love offerings, is there a ball park figure that they usually receive when they minister so that you don’t insult them when they leave? There are many traveling itinerant ministers with large ministries and varying scopes of influence who accept love offerings because they will not charge for the gospel. While this is pure and right, please don’t plan to give them a few hundred bucks for a series of weekend meetings and expect them to be thrilled! I highly recommend you already have a built in budget ready to bless them in case of emergency. These are all issues that should be covered before they come and minister. The more unanswered questions, the more likely offense will come in.

2. Never talk about your struggling church finances while they are present.
The fact that a church is struggling financially and invites an itinerant minister to speak anyways is almost always an immediate red flag and warning sign that they are about to royally dishonor them with a poverty mindset. Traveling itinerant ministers are not magicians. A meeting or three with them cannot compensate for poor leadership around the clock and especially in regards to finances. If you don’t have enough money to bless them generously while they are with you, then don’t have them in at all.)

3. Never assume that they would love to stay with your deacon, elder, or staff member who they’ve never met or heard of before.

Have you ever wanted to use the restroom, get comfortable, have freedom to do whatever you want and whenever you want, but couldn’t because there was awkward restrictions put on you like being in a house with people you don’t know or couldn’t get comfortable around? The next time you have an itinerant minister in, get them a nice hotel room and grant them the right to do whatever they want and whenever they want outside of the meetings. You might be surprised that the meetings they are doing are way more fruitful this way!

4. Find out what their ministry style is by asking them questions beforehand or inquiring about how they like to do altar ministry.

There is nothing worse than when an itinerant minister feels the anointing lift off the altar ministry and they are ready to leave and the host minister is completely on another page. It’s a sad day when the minister continues to line people up to be prayed for and ministered to when the itinerant minister is completely exhausted and worn out. Consistently check in with them to see how they are feeling and shift accordingly.

5. Ask them what they like to eat and drink!

Don’t assume that they enjoy your cold potluck dinner afterwards or that they are fasting like your church is and cannot eat because you can’t. There’s nothing better than a meal they love after they just preached their guts out.

6. Remember, they are a human being, not a circus performer.

They have real issues and struggles like you do. They get tired, have families, and have to pay the bills too. Instead of focusing every minute of every conversation on you and your church, take some time to ask them how they are doing apart from any ministry. Trust me, this will form healthy relationships for years to come.

7. If you announced to the crowds that ALL of the love offerings or honorariums that were received as they ministered would go to the itinerant minister, for the love of God and the sake of your integrity, do it!

Don’t use what people thought they were giving to them for the church light bill, mortgage, your personal vacation, or any other nonsense. Also, always try your best to get them a check before they leave, not a month or two down the road.

Grace and Peace,

Jeremiah Johnson

In His great wisdom throughout the course of human history, God has chosen not only to fulfill His plans and purposes through men and women who have yielded to the sound of His voice, but He has also chosen to accomplish His will through men and women who have ignored and rebelled against Him. One such man was King Cyrus mentioned in Isaiah 45.

Isaiah prophesied of Cyrus and speaks as a mouthpiece of the Lord when he declared, “I have even called you by your name [Cyrus]; I have named you, though you have not known Me. I am the Lord and there is no other; there is no God besides Me.
I strengthen you, though you have not known Me, so that they may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is no one besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other” (Is. 45:4-6).

What a powerful and profound prophetic declaration to a man who did not know or serve the Lord! Could God not use the wicked and ungodly to bring about His plans and purposes thousands of years ago and can He not still do the same thing again, especially in the midst of the crisis that we find America in today?

I was in a time of prayer several weeks ago when God began to speak to me concerning the destiny of Donald Trump in America. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “Trump shall become My trumpet to the American people, for he possesses qualities that are even hard to find in My people these days. Trump does not fear man nor will he allow deception and lies to go unnoticed. I am going to use him to expose darkness and perversion in America like never before, but you must understand that he is like a bull in a china closet. Many will want to throw him away because he will disturb their sense of peace and tranquility, but you must listen through the bantering to discover the truth that I will speak through him. I will use the wealth that I have given him to expose and launch investigations searching for the truth. Just as I raised up Cyrus to fulfill My purposes and plans, so have I raised up Trump to fulfill my purposes and plans prior to the 2016 election. You must listen to the trumpet very closely for he will sound the alarm and many will be blessed because of his compassion and mercy. Though many see the outward pride and arrogance, I have given him the tender heart of a father that wants to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy, to the foreigner and the stranger.”

As the body of Christ, we must keep our ears and eyes open as we continue to move toward the 2016 elections in the United States. I believe that God is not only going to use the prayers of the saints to bring about His plans and purposes, but He is even going to use those who do not know Him. What a great comfort and source of encouragement we have in the wisdom of God in this hour.

Just as Job declared to God in Job 42:2, “I know that You can do everything, and that no thought can be withheld from You.” Let’s begin to pray in faith, knowing that God can do all things and that no purpose of His in the 2016 elections can be thwarted!

I see more of a hunger in the prophetic movement to obtain power than to walk in intimacy. I see more of a desire to live under the anointing than to demonstrate Christlike character. I see more of an appetite to publicly prophesy over thousands than to privately pray to the Father in heaven. I see more of an obsession to chase after someone else’s prophetic mantle than to giving our time to discovering our own unique divine design given by the Father alone. I see more of an urge to chase gold dust, feathers and angels than to encounter the person of Jesus Christ.

All of these pursuits lead to one terrifying end: The rise of a generation of “Simon the Sorcerers” who are currently operating in illegitimate authority!

These individuals carry an appearance of walking in deep relationship with Jesus, but in reality, they are collateral damage to the body of Christ. These men and women are dangerous, their motives are impure, and what they primarily pursue and emphasize causes them to live in continual dysfunction. One of the main reasons the prophetic movement is headed for shipwreck is because we are continuing to honor and give individuals positions of authority that have quit on intimacy. These prophetic individuals consistently tear down with their character what they have built with their gifting.

The Story of Simon

The account of Simon the Sorcerer is told in Acts 8:9, when it says, “Now a man named Simon was previously in the city practicing sorcery and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying he was someone great, to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, ‘This man is the great power of God.’ They listened to him, because for a long time he had astonished them by his sorceries.”

Phillip began preaching the good news of the kingdom in Samaria and many men and women were baptized. Even Simon the Sorcerer himself believed and was baptized and immediately started following Phillip because he was amazed at the miracles taking place. When Peter and John heard that Samaria was receiving the word of God, they came down and began to pray that people might receive the Holy Spirit. Laying hands on the new believers, many of them began to be filled and touched by God.

In Acts 8:18-24 it says: “When Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me also this power, that whomever I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.’ Peter said to him, ‘May your money perish with you, because you thought you could purchase the gift of God with money! You have neither part nor share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Therefore repent of your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the intention of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.’ Then Simon answered, ‘Pray to the Lord for me that nothing you have spoken may come upon me.’”

One of the keys to understanding the deception Simon the Sorcerer lived in is to identify what he hungered for. He said to Peter and John, “Give this authority to me as well.” Simon’s desire for a position of influence and attention was the driving force behind his request to have the apostles lay hands on him. He was quickly becoming addicted to ministry and it was becoming an idol in his life.

When this deadly deception overtakes an individual, destruction is right around the corner. Simon was not interested in deep union with Jesus. He was only interested in the miracle-working power of Jesus. All activity in the kingdom of God that is not born out of intimacy is unauthorized by heaven!

Peter and John had not only walked with Jesus, but as the crowds noted in Acts 4:13 as the lame crippled beggar had been healed, “they had been with Jesus.” Peter and John had waited in the Upper Room to be filled with power from on high, but Simon the Sorcerer was looking for a quick impartation to launch him into ministry.

Peter responds to Simon’s request and says, ” May your silver perish with you because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!” In other words, Simon wanted authority and power so badly that he was willing to use soulish means to obtain them. Peter continues and says, “You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.”

I see thousands of Christian young adults in America who, like Simon the Sorcerer, are hungry for the supernatural and are therefore looking for an impartation, prayer or touch from a well-known leader in the body of Christ to launch them into their ministry. Rather than seeking intimacy with Jesus Christ and walking in true legitimate kingdom authority like Peter and John, many, just like Simon, are seeking a drive-thru experience because they are hungry for authority, but aren’t willing to obtain it legally through intimacy.

Empowering Illegitimate Authority

We who are prophets and leaders have placed so much emphasis on activation and impartation in our prophetic and supernatural schools in America, and so little time connecting people to the character and nature of God and what Jesus is really like, that we ourselves have blessed and commissioned a generation of Simon the Sorcerers who are operating in illegitimate authority in the body of Christ.

Because intimacy and deep union with Jesus Christ are no longer a focus in the prophetic movement, our horrendous levels of discernment have built stages for these Simon the Sorcerers and given them platforms. We have been incredibly gullible as leaders and therefore produced extremely gullible prophetic people.

Peter told Simon the Sorcerer that his heart was not right before God. I believe Simon’s desires for power and authority were not only not pleasing to God, but I believe deep within Simon’s heart was an impure motive to have the apostles’ hands laid on him: He was full of jealousy!

The Spirit of Jealousy

We are witnessing a mass production of parrots, echoes, and mimics in the prophetic and supernatural movements in America. Too many prophetic people are forfeiting authenticity and originality for formulas and models, even in the supernatural. A large portion of immature and young prophetic people are worshipping well known names in the body of Christ and are hungry for them to have hands laid on them by these individuals. Simon the Sorcerers are signing up for their conferences, their ministry schools and their meetings. The motive behind this crazy frenzy is not a love for Jesus, but a jealously of others possessing what we do not carry and a total disregard for the need for deep union with Jesus.

I believe that the fuel behind this rapidly growing movement is the spirit of jealousy cloaked in a desire for impartation and activation. Simon did not want the Holy Spirit and power from a pure heart that can only be found in those that spend time with Jesus. He was jealous of the power and authority that Peter and John walked in out of an insecure and wicked heart.

Deep Union

The new prophetic generation rising in the earth will walk in legitimate authority because of their deep union with Jesus Christ and central pursuit of His character and nature. They have been trained and raised up by prophetic fathers and mothers who saw and understood early on that God was more interested in changing them than using them. This new prophetic generation is not obsessed by or enamored of another’s mantle or gifting, but simply enthralled by the invitation to come sit at the feet of Jesus.

The Coming Distinction

There is a divine confrontation quickly approaching the prophetic movement. I see a collision between a breed of Simon the Sorcerers who are going to be exposed for the illegitimate authority that they walk in and a new prophetic generation who walk in true kingdom authority birthed out of intimacy. Beware of these Simon the Sorcerers. They are addicted to ministry and crave the power and anointing of God from an impure heart of jealousy and a selfish desire to be famous.

Instead of carrying a living and active spirit of revelation, Simon the Sorcerer types have to borrow revelation because they have no prayer life. Simon told Peter and John in verse 24, “Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.” The greatest distinction between this breed of Simon the Sorcerers and the new prophetic generation rising in the earth will be deep intimacy with Jesus that can only be birthed through deep intercession and travail. Simon the Sorcerers are looking to get launched into ministry by another’s touch, but the new prophetic generation is looking to grow in humility under heaven’s touch. This can only be accomplished through prayer, fasting and time in the secret place where private battles are won.

Have you ever played “catch-phrase”? One person has a word given to them on a screen and they try to get their team to guess their word without saying it by describing it and often times using words that are associated with it.

Much like a game of catch-phrase, “revivals” and the “glory of God” sometimes have words associated with them that make me cringe and often times scratch my head. For example, I  was recently speaking at a prophetic conference and had a conversation with some young people who I asked to give me several words that come to their heads when they think of “revival” and the “glory of God“.

They instantly started giving me words: moral failure, lack of accountability, families destroyed, churches shutting down… As they continued to go on, I stopped them and said, “Okay, but what about the salvations, healings, manifestations etc?” They replied, ” Well yes all of that too, but everything we spoke of is kind of tied in together with one another. You have one guy moving in power and miracles, meanwhile he is cheating on his wife. You have another church ‘hosting the glory’, meanwhile the church in five to ten years shuts down or can barely stay afloat because they can’t pay their bills and the original pastor left.’”

As I flew home from this conference and conversation with these young adults, the Holy Spirit began to stir inside of me. The more I inquired and asked the same question to hundreds of young adults around the country in “revival cultures” and regions where “the glory of God” moved, they all responded in the same way. To my horror, there seems to be an entire generation of young people who believe synonyms for revival and the glory of God are: moral failure, lack of accountability, families destroyed, and churches shutting down. My question is: Did God intend for that list to actually be antonyms? Is it possible to walk in real miracle power with upright character all at the same time? Can revival and the glory of God descending upon regions actually bless the church instead of destroy it?

Here are 3 keys to lead us in the right direction….

My good friend and author R. Loren Sandford is famous for saying, “There is a glory that God sends to regions that is intended to bless the church, but if their is a crack in their character, what God sent to bless them with will actually end up crushing them.” I’m going to take it one step further and say that if revival and the glory of God can destroy a ministry, church, and the man or woman of God leading it, maybe its just revealing how carnal the structure and accountability really is. And to make things worse, revival history is littered with individuals who loved mixture more than they loved Jesus. Men and women refused to deal with their issues in the secret place so that when they were raised up, their flaws were exposed in the public place and the body of Christ was mocked once again and rightfully so! How many more Christian leaders are going to use the example of David and Bathsheeba as to why their affair is okay? Do we realize that the Bible is full of flawed individuals to show us how much we really need Jesus, the model of perfection, instead of using their sin to excuse our sin? Oh that a generation would fix their eyes on Jesus. He came to reveal the Glory of God (John 1:14) and every definition of revival is contained inside of His person (John 7:37).

I want to call a generation of leaders to deal with the lion and the bear. We must consistently and constantly turn the light on in the closet and lay all the skeletons out before God and man. If we will be faithful to the battles that no one see’s, God will be faithful to raise us up for the battles that everyone see’s and WE WILL HAVE VICTORYBut if we are unfaithful to the battles that no one see’s, God will be faithful to raise us up for the battles that everyone see’s and we will be humiliated and bring shame and reproach upon the body of Christ. Don’t be deceived: there are many pseudo David’s running out to take on the Goliath’s of our day,  but it’s not them that are going to cut His head off at the end of the day, it’s Goliath that is going to eat them for lunch!

I was in the Garden of Gethsamene several weeks ago while visiting Israel. As I was deep in prayer and mediation, the Holy Spirit kept saying to me, “If you do not deal with your flesh privately, your flesh will deal with you publicly.” The Father is raising up a new breed of revivalists who are going to put to death every idea in people’s heads about words that are associated with revival and the glory of God. I foresee an era in the body of Christ where the new synonyms for powerful moves of God and people that carry the glory and anointing will be: holy, uncompromised, righteous, loving their wife as Christ loved the church, above reproach, not lovers of money, and most of all; radically Jesus centered!

To be sure, one of the most confusing elements of revival and the glory of  God moving in regions is how individuals can still perform signs and wonders, yet be living in a compromised lifestyle. This is so deceptive and mind boggling to people, that it actually serves as a solid foundation in people’s minds and hearts, rather than a serious and grave concern. Too many individuals generally accept powerful gifting and moral flaws as a packaged dealThey believe that you  cannot have one without the other. And what’s even more grieving is that we lack so much discernment in the body of Christ that people tend to not even care. “Give us the miracles and who cares about their lifestyle” many cry out! Does that sound like the ministry of Jesus to you? I hope not!

Romans 11:29 says, “for the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable”. Another translation says that they are “without repentance”. In other words, individuals can continue to perform miracles and prophesy without repenting of their sin! What a terrifying concept and only God Himself knows why He allows this, but one thing is for sure: While individuals can operate in their gifts and calling without repentance, THEY CANNOT WALK IN THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHOUT REPENTANCE! We do not need to look any further than the life of King Saul who lost the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 15:26), but still prophesied and led Israel for another 20 years. The only person in the whole nation of Israel who knew and recognized that Saul had lost the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit was Samuel the prophet. An entire nation was deceived and led astray by the irrevocable gifts and calling upon King Saul’s life. And so it is today, thousands are being led astray by compromised voices astounding people with their gifts and calling, but yet not having the approval and touch of God upon their life. They will be like those in Matthew 7 where Jesus said, “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not cast out demons, and in your name perform miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness’.” We must pray for greater wisdom and discernment in the body of Christ to know the difference between the actual anointing of God versus individuals that are just operating in irrevocable gifts and callings. Remember, when we stand before Jesus on Judgement Day, He will reward no one for the gifts He gave them. No one with the gift of prophecy will be rewarded for prophesying and no one who was given the gift of miracles will be rewarded for the miracles they performed. We will simply be rewarded for HOW WE STEWARDED the gifts that we were given.

After Todd Bentley’s moral failure during the “Lakeland Outpouring” and the massive fallout in the body of Christ that took place after it, Dutch Sheets offered a letter of apology to the public. His words are both sobering, revealing, and incredibly weighty to the next generation of leaders in the earth:

“We, the leaders of the charismatic community, have operated in an extremely low level of discernment. Frankly, we often don‚t even try to discern. We assume a person’s credibility based on gifts, charisma, the size of their ministry or church, whether they can prophesy or work a miracle, etc. (Miracles and signs are intended to validate God and His message, not the messenger; sometimes they validate the assignment of an individual, but never the person’s character, lifestyle or spiritual maturity.) We leaders in the Church have become no different than the world around us in our standards for measuring success and greatness. This has contributed to the body of Christ giving millions of dollars to undeserving individuals; it has allowed people living in sin to become influential leaders – even to lead movements, allowing them influence all the way to the White House.

Through our lack of discernment we built their stages and gave them their platforms. We have been gullible beyond words- gullible leaders producing gullible sheep. When a spiritual leader we’re connected with violates trust, is exposed for immorality or falls below other accepted standards of behavior, it does not exonerate us simply to say we don’t condone such behavior. Those we lead trust us to let them know whom to trust. We have failed them miserably in this regard. For this lack of discernment, and for employing and passing on inappropriate standards of judgment, I repent to the Lord and ask forgiveness of the body of Christ.”

How then do we handle those who refused to deal with their flesh in private and their flesh ended up dealing with them in public? What do we do with these men and women of God who carry such powerful gifts and callings, yet place so little value on character and holiness? What is God’s plan according to His word for these men and women.

Matthew 18:15-18 says,“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”

Galatians 6:1 says, “Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.”

James 3:1 says, “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

Much of the accountability and systems of restoration that church leadership has set in place for fallen leaders has been so completely contrary to Scripture and sound wisdom that it’s heartbreaking at best. In order, restoration for fallen leaders according to Scripture must follow this process:

1. Restored Back to God

2. Restored Back to Spouse and Family

3. Restored Back to Body of Christ

4. Restored Back to Ministry

Unfortunately in many Christian circles, the focal point of restoration has been completely centered on being restored back to preaching and teaching and I want to be clear: THAT IS THE LAST ISSUE ON THE LIST BELOVED!!! I’ll even take it a step further: If the only reason why individuals who have fallen are willing to repent is so that they can get “back into ministry” they are NOT REPENTANT and are quite frankly addicted to ministry and people that are addicted to ministry do not need to be in ministry! PERIOD. For a man to have an affair on his wife and marry that woman and then to be “restored back to ministry” not only makes him an adulterer, but also his new “wife”. Can this person continue to operate in miracles because he has an irrevocable call? ABSOLUTELY! Will they ever walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit again? NOT WITHOUT DEEP AND BIBLICAL REPENTANCE! It would do the body of Christ a lot of good if fallen leaders were simply content at being restored back to God and their families and perhaps long down the road, God might open up doors for them to minister in some capacity, but rarely back on the public stage in no time.

Hear the word of the Lord saints:

The days are drawing near in the body of Christ where men and women will demonstrate the kingdom of God found in Romans 14:17. They will walk in righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. To many people’s surprise, their peace and joy will come from a cleansed conscience who has embraced the message of repentance and bears much fruit that will last. Some will call them “law preachers”, others will call them “religious” ,but Jesus will call them, “sons of the living God”.

A new standard of moral purity and holy living is being raised in the body of Christ. Expect with great anticipation miracles, signs, and wonders and prophetic words that shake nations to come from vessels who love Jesus more than they love their hidden sin. These individuals will be branded with a distinct marking and is encompassed in two words: Wilderness trained! For it is in the wilderness that we learn how to die to ourselves. We take up our Cross and follow Jesus. The end of us is the beginning of Him! In the words of John the Baptist, “we decrease so that He increases”.

Be on the lookout for carriers of revival and glory that steward and host His presence in ways that blesses them, not crushes them. The public will not know their name, but heaven will. Pray for discernment. Ask your Heavenly Father to show you the difference between gifts without repentance and the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. Lastly, pray for our fallen leaders. Cry out for those who longed for the Giant, but never turned aside for the lion and the bear. May we walk forward with wisdom, humility, and most of all Christ-likeness. Our greatest days in the body of Christ are ahead of us!

There is a growing alarm among many, including my own heart, concerning the over-emphasis in these days on the place of the miraculous, and signs and wonders in the Church. As God is increasing the displays of His own power in the earth in these latter days, directly preceding the Coming of the Lord Jesus, it is important that we hold these manifestations of His Spirit in proper perspective. Jesus Christ Himself is “the Word of Life” (1John 1:1), “the Power of God and the Wisdom of God” (1Cor. 1:24), and “the Gospel of His Death, Burial and Resurrection” is also “the power of God” to save and transform humanity (1Cor. 15:3-4; Romans 1:16). In fact, Paul is very clear in stating, “There is only Christ, and He is Everything” (Col. 3:11—Jerusalem Bible).

The above-stated concern arises out of the jealousy to see nothing and no one, no matter how “spiritual” it/he may appear to be, to ever be allowed to eclipse the Glorious Person of Jesus Christ Himself. He has been given “Preeminence in all things” (Col. 1:18) by the Father Himself, in being the Head of His Body/Church/Bride, the Firstborn Son in the Household of God the Father, and in being both the Foundation and Cornerstone of the House/Temple/Dwelling Place of God the Spirit. He alone is worthy and deserving of our unswerving devotion, because He is the Father’s own “Everything,” and because He is “the Son of His love” (Col. 1:13—Amp.).  Anything that obscures Him or eclipses Him from our view, or captures the devotion of our hearts, needs to be addressed and corrected, even as Paul himself discusses in 2Corinthians 11:1-15.

The current issue is not as to whether God Himself is behind the genuine manifestations of His power in our day. That which is genuine is by nature also “true, authentic and real.” The issue is with the hearts of true believers running after  “miracles, signs and wonders,” and those who perform them, and getting distracted so that “your minds should be led astray (corrupted by seduction) away from your single-hearted devotion and pure sincerity toward Christ.” Anything that encroaches on our devotion to Him should be viewed as “the deceptive, seducing, trickery and craftiness of the serpent” (2Cor. 11:2-3). If he is allowed to go undetected in his subtle seductions, even in “spiritual things,” then he will eventually take full advantage of every glance and gaze taken off of the beauty of Jesus Himself, and he will corrupt our hearts.

In the N.T., while it is clear that the supernatural realm of all of the spiritual gifts was both normal and anticipated among the churches whenever they gathered together (1Cor. 12-14; 1Peter 4:10-11), it is also clear that miracles, signs and wonders, had a very special place among the world of unbelievers when the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the remission of sins was being preached. These (miracles and gifts) served at times as a means to the end of preaching and proclaiming Christ, and at other times they served as confirmation to the Message, Who was Christ Himself. Hebrews 2:3-4 states, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard (the Twelve), God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” These manifestations of the Spirit of God became a tool of evangelism among the lost, even as they are today. The miracles, signs, wonders, and gifts were not ends in themselves. They were tools in the hands of God and His servants to preach Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. And the rejoicing in heaven itself and among the saints was not in the miracles that were performed, but in the eternal salvation of souls through the Blood of the Lamb.

Furthermore, when the churches were gathered together as local expressions of the Body of Christ, we are instructed, “to earnestly desire the greater gifts,” and “to pursue love, but earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy” (1Cor. 12:31; 14:1).  Of all the “spiritual gifts” to be desired, prophecy ranks the highest! Not miracles, not the gift of faith, not the gifts of healings, but the gift of prophecy is the gift to be most earnestly desired. And why is that? It is simply this: “Because you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted” (14:31). And because, “if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God certainly is in your midst” (14:24-25). And because, “one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation” (14:3).

When He Who is the Word of Life speaks words of Life to His people through human vessels of clay, is that not a wonder and a sign and a miracle? It is all meant to produce the worship of God and the Lamb. It is not meant to enamor us of men. It is all for His great Glory, which He will share with no flesh.

It is with great joy and full agreement then that I commend the following word from Jeremiah Johnson to the Body of our Lord.

FEBRUARY 11, 2013

(Author of The Reflection of God and Jesus: The Fullness of Ministry)

I remember as a young boy witnessing my very first miracle. We were praying for physical healing at a church service for several people that had pain in their shoulders, necks, and backs. At a certain point during prayer, two of them began to describe a sensation of “fire” in the areas that were in pain. Within seconds, the pain was completely gone. I could hardly believe it.

Years later there came a day when I found myself ministering in the jungles of Belize at 19 years old. I had gone with a Baptist group and preached a sermon out of Acts 2 on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. By the end of the service, a majority of the people present were slain in the Spirit, and I never touched a single person. The Baptist group that I went with was visibly distraught and followed me around most of the night, carefully observing me to make sure I wasn’t pushing anyone down as I prayed for the many different people. I watched as sick bodies were healed, and many powerful prophetic testimonies came forth that night.

Less than six months ago, I visited Redding, CA. I attended Bethel church for the second time, where Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton have revolutionized church culture with worship and demonstrations of power through signs, wonders, and miracles.  As I sat in the sanctuary of Bethel church, the Holy Spirit kindly whispered to me, “What are you doing here?” I replied softly, “I am here to learn and receive.” The words that came back caught me off-guard. “ I love your heart son, but I want you to know that everything that they have here, I have already put inside of you. You are seeking an external reality, and I am going to show you the internal reality that lives within you.”

I sat stunned for several minutes, and I wasn’t exactly sure how to respond. I didn’t believe that God was upset with me, but I began to sense that I was not at Bethel church to merely be an observer. By this point I had regained focus and become more aware of my current surroundings, when I looked directly to my left to notice a man and woman that were married. I immediately introduced myself and prophesied to them. I told the woman why she was there, and described to the woman her physical injury, which had brought her there that morning.  I commanded the pain to go, and watched as it left instantly. I prophesied over her husband about his call to ministry and his deep feelings of insecurity, but how the Father was clothing him with heavenly identity. He wept as the Holy Spirit ministered healing to his heart.

Within time, the ushers at Bethel church were asking me to leave the room. They gently explained that I must have a badge in order to lay hands on people in their healing room.

I walked out into their café and was told I could pray for anyone that I wanted to out there. My eyes focused on a woman with crutches wearing a boot on her foot. She was visibly in pain. I quickly made a move toward her and was accompanied by my brother, wife, and a friend.

We asked her about her injury, showing that we cared and were concerned. Then came the leap of faith. We told her that we were going to pray and ask God to heal her. Kneeling down in prayer, we commanded the pain to leave her body.  She smiled as she began to experience a “warm sensation” all throughout her foot. The next thing we did was “the unthinkable.” We asked her to take off her boot and attempt to walk without her crutches. I will never forget the look on her face as she stared at her husband in disbelief saying, “You know my husband had to beg me to come here today, and I told him that people that prayed for me had better not ask that I take off my boot.

I wasn’t taking no for an answer. I asked her again, “Can you take off your boot and see if the pain has left? I would like to see you walk.” She took off her boot, set down her crutches, and began to limp. She said that the pain had slightly decreased. We decided to pray again.  We commanded the pain to leave, and she started to walk once again. We prayed for her a total of 5 times.  With every time she would limp and the pain would become increasingly less and less. Eventually it was completely gone, and she began to cry and laugh with joy. She explained the details of her injury with us and also told us the diagnosis that the medical doctor had given her. This woman was scheduled for major surgery and had had one of the worst breaks physically possible in your foot.

A cameraman that worked for Bethel church heard of this miracle and proceeded to invite us and this woman upstairs to a room, where he filmed and recorded her testimony. It was incredible. This was on a Saturday that she experienced this miracle, and she was scheduled for an X-ray by her doctor on Tuesday. I asked her to email me the results when they came in.

Much to her doctor’s amazement, the broken bone in her foot had miraculously grown back together. There was no logical explanation. There was simply a testimony about Jesus healing a woman’s foot.  And this woman, much to her husband’s pleadings, had had no previous intentions of going to Bethel church, much less taking off her boot, and making it to the prayer room. But there she found herself, experiencing God’s healing power in a café, through a random guy from Florida who had been asked by God only fifteen minutes earlier, “What are you doing here?”

I share these testimonies to establish the truth that I believe in miracles. I have both witnessed them and been used to release them in the United States and across the world. I even pastor a church in Lakeland, FL where the supernatural has become a lifestyle. By the grace of God, we have created a culture where miracles, signs, and wonders are anticipated and expected.  They’re not just some “out of the ordinary occurrence” that leaves everyone in shock for weeks. We celebrate what God has done and look in expectation for more testimonies of his mercy and love week after week.

Throughout these years of walking in the miraculous and now being used to help people walk in it for themselves, my heart has continued to be burdened by what I am going to call a “generation that seeks to exalt miracles over the God of miracles.”

I’ve become troubled as I recollect multiple interactions from my travels in the earth, by those that are hungry and desperate for miracles. In their desperation, it seems that the demonstrating power has become more emphasized and preached than the God of power. We tend to want to seek experiences and encounters more than we want to understand the person of Jesus Christ. In essence, we have become “thing” or “manifestation” centered and not Jesus Christ centered.

I want to be clear. I am not attempting to divorce miracles from the gospel. Miracles are very much a part of the kingdom of God. For me, it’s a question of ranking. There is absolutely no doubt that signs and wonders can be used to lead people into relationship with Jesus Christ. In fact, in the book of Acts alone, miracles were used seventeen times to bring salvation. The clearest examples are in Acts 9:34-35 and 9:40,42. Peter heals Aeneas, and Luke says, “And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.” Peter raises Tabitha from the dead, and Luke says, “It became known to all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.”

My issue is rooted in the desire to seek after and demonstrate miracles for the sake of performing and demonstrating miracles. When miracles become preeminent over the person of Jesus Christ, we have an issue of ranking on our hands. I have observed so many young people performing miracles, without ever preaching repentance or even mentioning the name of Jesus to people in a way that invites them into personal relationship. They pray for hurt body parts and witness healing, but merely respond with, “Jesus is healing you, that’s really cool,” while moving on.  This is not a biblical mindset when it comes to understanding the power of God or the God of power.

When we fail to see miracles, signs, and wonders, as invitations into relationship with Jesus, they become no more than trophies for Christians to brag about.  Can Jesus introduce Himself to people through miracles, signs, and wonders? Absolutely. Can miracles, signs, and wonders be elevated to a place of overemphasis and an act of idolatry? Absolutely!

It’s interesting to study Matthew 12:38-42, when the Pharisees and religious leaders asked Jesus for a sign.  Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.”

How are we to grapple with this text? We live in a generation seeking to demonstrate signs, wonders, and miracles, yet Jesus is declaring that a wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign.

This is where I believe it’s all about context. In this passage of scripture, Jesus is saying that sign-seeking is “wicked and adulterous,” when the demand for more and more evidence comes from a resistant heart and simply covers an unwillingness to believe.

This text begs the question to be asked: Are signs, wonders, and miracles really what the world needs? On one hand we have the spirit filled church zealous to perform signs, wonders, and miracles, and on the other hand we have what Jesus would call a wicked and adulterous generation asking for a sign without any desire to believe.

One of the most disturbing dreams I have ever had came at a time when I was studying Matthew 7:22-24. Jesus said, “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name did we not cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will say to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.”

In this dream I saw all these people in hell who had performed miracles, cast out demons, and prophesied.  What I was shown next, I will never forget. The Holy Spirit showed me long lines behind all of them.  These were the people that had received the miracles, prophesies, and had been delivered. As I gazed at the people in these lines He said to me, “ Did they not RECEIVE miracles, prophecy, and deliverance, yet I never knew them?”

I woke up alarmed and startled. There are not only people that will perform signs, wonders, and miracles that will be sent to hell, but also people who receive these things that will be in hell. Why? Because those that worked miracles, prophesied, and cast out demons never preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This is the message of repentance.  They never knew Him experientially. Whether one performs miracles or receives miracles, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is required to eternally dwell in heaven after death.

It is interesting to note that history has revealed false prophets and false demonstrations of power. Jesus warned the disciples in Matthew 7:15-16 and said, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them.” I had a dream several months ago while studying this passage of scripture. I found myself in a crowd of people watching different men and women on a stage performing great signs and wonders. After each one of them performed a miracle, Matthew 7:15-16 would flash on a screen next to the stage and the crowd would cheer. Each time the crowd cheered, my heart and spirit would go into turmoil. Suddenly, Jesus Christ stepped on the stage. The crowd became very fearful. In this dream, I was the only one that stood up straight and smiled at Jesus. He began to shout to the crowd and said, “You fools, the fruit that I spoke of in scripture is not miracles, it is my nature and character. Real and genuine fruit is birthed from Christ-likeness. Many will be swept away in the last days, for they chase after miracles and do not have an eye for the truth of who I am. Beware.”

When we overlook the message being preached and simply demand miracles, we put ourselves in a position to be blinded to the truth. What we need in this current generation is character that will match anointing. We need men and women that have the nature and character of Jesus Christ dwelling within them. Too many believers want the power of God to demonstrate His miracles without hungering for the dealings of God that will produce His character.

In a generation that is so deeply crying out for power and demonstrations, may we in the body of Christ who have been placed in positions of influence continue to direct these zealous ones to Jesus Christ. He is the author of salvation and the worker of miracles. Miracles themselves cannot save anyone. Only Jesus Christ himself can!

As a leader in the body of Christ who is Holy Spirit filled and not only has witnessed miracles, signs, and wonders, but also walked in them for many years, I cannot keep silent any longer. There is an unhealthy view of the supernatural that is being communicated to the Pentecostal/Charismatic world, and it needs to be addressed. When relationship with Jesus Christ is replaced with manifestations, a train wreck is inevitable.  We must be a people that worships the God of miracles, not the miracles of God. Some might call it semantics. For me, the issue continues to be one of ranking. Can miracles, signs, and wonders be used to lead people into relationship with Jesus Christ? Absolutely. I believe wholeheartedly that we are to pursue a supernatural lifestyle. My concern and encouragement is that we must be on guard against worshipping miracles and seeking to demonstrate miracles for miracle’s sake. May we fix our eyes on Jesus, and may He be our all in all! Let us look for opportunities to demonstrate the kingdom, but never fail to preach the God of the Kingdom.
